Irkut Corporation at Le Bourget 2019

Irkut Corporation (a UAC member) took at the Paris air Show and at the United Aircraft Corporation stand there the mock-up of the MC-21 aircraft (in model form) and an upgraded version of procedural simulator for training (retraining) flight crews of the MC-21-300 airliner. The procedural simulator of MC-21-300 has been upgraded including taking into account the results of flight tests. The central part of the simulator is the unified MC-21 aircraft cabin module and this module enables different types of training. The simulator has the latest consoles and controls design, display and alarm systems of the cockpit, upgraded software and hardware system for the visualisation of cockpit environment. Irkut is conducting tests of the MC-21-300 aircraft in order to obtain Russian and European type certificates. Three MC-21-300 aircraft are taking part in flight tests. On the fourth flight test aircraft, systems are being installed to join the flight tests later in 2019.

Meanwhile, flight test experts from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) completed the second session of the MC-21-300 validation programme. During the certification tests EASA expertsevaluated the behavior of MC-21-300 aircraft in various modes at altitudes upto12,000 m. The flights were performed with a large and low take-off weight, in the conditions of front and rear centering. The operation of the integrated aircraft control system in the normal mode has been verified. Yuri Slyusar, President of UAC stated, “The MC-21-300 is undergoing flight tests in order to obtain Russian and European type certificates. The completion of the second session of certification flights by EASA testers is another step in this direction. In parallel, at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant we are expanding the production of MC-21-300 aircraft intended for initial customer’s delivery”.

The first session of the certification flights of EASA experts took place in January 2019. In September 2018, EASA test crew completed a special course in theoretical and practical training, as a result of which they obtained permission to fly on MC-21-300 aircraft.
